The Grand Piano
This is the largest piano type made. These are the most majestic and often called the horizontal soundboard. These awesome pianos have a sound that has no equal. They can be 4 foot up to 9 feet across. A Grand piano is usually made of fine wood with small metal or brass holders and parts. The keys are usually made of wood, coated with ivory, some are pure ivory depending on the manufacturer, make, or age. The Grand piano is the heaviest and usually the most difficult and most expensive to move. The Grand piano has 88 keys with an opening top and a folding sheet music holder. The Baby Grand piano is a smaller version but still has 88 keys, these are not as loud or full spectrum as the grand piano. The Upright The Upright is usually the least expensive piano. These pianos sit upright and take up much less space. Upright pianos were made famous in the old western movies. The Upright piano fits nicely in a parlor or living room, and are often called parlor pianos. These pianos have their strings running vertical and produce a rich sound but are considered less expensive than the grand piano. This is not always the case a full size 5 foot Upright piano can rival a grand piano in sound quality and in amount of sound and are often just as loud.
